What is the Howdens Worcester Oak 3 Panel Door?
The Worcester is an internal, unglazed door with three recessed panels and a classic profile. It uses an engineered particleboard core covered with genuine American white oak veneer. This construction provides the grain and pale natural tone of oak with greater dimensional stability than a door made from solid timber throughout.
The real-wood veneer varies naturally from one door to another. Differences in figuring, tone and grain direction are part of the material rather than a fault. When several doors are being installed together, we can help plan their positions and orientation to create a balanced appearance across a landing or hallway.
An unfinished oak door ready for your chosen treatment
The standard Worcester Oak door is supplied unfinished. Every face and edge must be sealed using a compatible varnish, stain or approved door oil such as Osmo, following the latest Howdens instructions. Waxes, polishes and unsuitable oils may not seal the veneer correctly and can risk delamination.
An unfinished surface offers flexibility over the final tone. A clear coating can retain the light American white oak appearance, while a compatible stain can coordinate it with flooring, furniture or existing joinery. Test the selected product on a discreet area because the finished shade can differ from a small sample and natural veneer absorbs treatment unevenly.
Sizes, trimming and fitting requirements
The standard range is 1981mm high and 35mm thick, with common imperial widths available. The current specification permits up to 4mm of trimming from each side, top and bottom, provided equal amounts are removed and the manufacturer’s fitting instructions are followed. The long edges are lipped, but excessive trimming can expose or weaken the engineered core.
Our installation process includes inspecting the existing lining, confirming the opening, sizing the door within its permitted tolerances, preparing hinge and latch positions, fitting the agreed hardware and adjusting the closing gaps. The solid construction means the latch can be positioned on either side. For preparation advice, read our internal door measuring guide.
Why use a professional interior-door fitter?
Existing frames are often out of square or slightly twisted, especially in older properties. A door that matches the nominal size can still bind, swing or leave uneven gaps if it is not prepared for the individual opening. Careful fitting helps the Worcester close smoothly while protecting its veneer and engineered structure.
Standard, glazed and fire-door versions
This page covers the standard unfinished, non-fire-rated Worcester Oak 3 Panel Door. Howdens also offers separate glazed and FD30 Worcester products. A glazed version helps share light between rooms, while a certified FD30 door is required where the opening must provide fire resistance.
These are distinct products. The standard door cannot be converted into a certified fire door, and an FD30 installation also requires the correct certified components and fitting method. Tell us where each door will be installed if you are uncertain which specification applies.
